Not one more
(ongoing)

"Not One More" is an ongoing project focused on domestic violence and the crime of femicide, urgent issues that affect women all over the world.

Brazil is facing a silent epidemic that, year after year, steals lives, shatters families, and exposes the deep gender inequalities in society: femicide, defined by Brazilian legislation as the murder of women in contexts of domestic violence, family violence, or gender discrimination.

Although femicide has been defined in Brazilian law since 2015, the continuous increase in cases suggests that the country still faces enormous challenges in preventing violence against women. According to data from the National Public Security Information System (Sinesp), by October 2024, states and the Federal District had reported 1,128 femicide deaths to the Ministry. These alarming numbers expose the failures of a system that, despite being backed by laws like the Maria da Penha Law and the legal framework for femicide, still fails to protect women. Ignored reports, the lack of psychological and economic support for victims, and gaps in support structures turn Brazil into a hostile environment for thousands of women who live under the constant threat of violence.

This tragedy leaves deep scars on families. Mothers, fathers, children, siblings, and friends are immersed in a pain that is hard to measure, facing not only the longing but also the emptiness left by extreme violence. The impact of the femicide crime is lasting and goes beyond immediate mourning, creating invisible emotional scars that are intensely present in the daily lives of families marked by this trauma.
